Kayenta Anasazi Heartland TourLeader: Kim Spurr Cost includes transportation, hotel for two nights (double-occupancy; single lodging available at an additional $50), all meals, and group gear. This journey into the Kayenta Anasazi heartland in northeastern Arizona will take us back to many of the archaeological sites that the Museum has excavated and studied over the years. Archaeologist Kim Spurr leads this exploration of sites at Long House Valley, Sage Valley, and the base of Navajo Mountain. Visits to cave sites and several large pueblos occupied during the prehistoric period will reveal the cultural development and changes in social and economic systems that led to the abandonment of the region in the late A.D. 1200s. Enjoy spectacular scenery and the natural wonders of the region from base camp at the home of our Navajo hosts and guides, who will offer insights into the historic and modern way of life around Navajo Mountain. In addition to a two-night car camp, this trip begins with a two-night stay at the Tsegi Anasazi Inn. All meals, including a traditional Navajo dinner, are included. Banner and inset photos by Kim Spurr.
