Since Glen Canyon Dam was completed in 1963, the resulting Lake Powell has covered a canyon that John Wesley Powell once described as “A curious ensemble of wonderful features–carved walls, royal arches, glens, alcove gulches, mounds, and monuments.” After nearly forty years of being covered by water, a receding reservoir has exposed these spectacular features again. Local author Annette McGiveny and photographer James Kay will take you to these recovered side canyons, bringing to life the images in their recent book Resurrection. Hike through slot canyons, under arches, and across washes to witness the miracle of ecological recovery. These moderate day hikes will stimulate interesting conversation around the evening campfire and certainly inspire new visions for living in these landscapes.

“I really hope to participate in more of these programs in the future and would recommend them to anyone interested in adventures and knowledge.” —C.E.
