Water on the PlateauLeader: Dr. Larry Stevens Cost includes transportation, meals, and group gear. Water resources are the source of beauty, scientific intrigue, and political strife on the southern Colorado Plateau. On this car camping expedition, we will explore these themes in our circumnavigation of Grand Canyon. We will tour Glen Canyon Dam and run the river from the dam down to historic Lees Ferry. We will learn about Native perspectives and concerns about water, and explore extraordinary springs and streams on the North Rim of Grand Canyon. From there, we will tour southwestern Utah and proceed to Las Vegas to learn about water issues and use, before we return to Flagstaff. Each day we will travel across the vast, arid landscapes of the Colorado Plateau enroute to the life giving sources of water, setting the context for their relationships to the people and ecology of the region. Our nights will be spent at various developed and undeveloped campgrounds, where we will enjoy fine meals, starry nights, and good company around the campfire.
