Crossings of the Little Colorado

In memory of Bill Beaver, former Sacred Mountain Trading Post owner and beloved friend of the Museum, we will walk in his footsteps and the footsteps of the Navajo, Hopi, Spanish, and Mormon settlers along the Little Colorado River. Along this path, we will see petroglyphs and historic inscriptions, and learn the significance of these important crossings throughout history. Jerry Snow will guide this one-day adventure, which includes lunch and a traditional Hopi dinner.

About the trip leader

Dr. Jerry SnowDr. Jerry Snow has been a docent with the Museum of Northern Arizona since 1994, specializing in Navajo history and culture, Hopi history and culture, and in archaeology. He has curated and assisted with several exhibits at the Museum, including Dwellers of the Four Worlds (Hopi and Zuni katsina dolls), Tolchaco (Navajo, Hopi, and Anglo life in the Arizona Territory), and Stories on Stone (Rock Art of the Colorado Plateau). He has been a tour guide to the Hopi Reservation for MNA. He has also been a tour guide to abandoned trading posts on the Navajo Reservation for MNA, for the Pecos Conference, Navajo Studies Conference, and Arizona Site Steward Conference. Read more…
