Exploring Escalante

Cost: $1,450 members / $1,500 nonmembers
Difficulty: Easy

Cost includes transportation from MNA, hotel (double occupancy; add $300 for single lodging), and lunches. All other meals are an additional expense.

Explore the intriguing geology and spectacularly diverse landscapes of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument with geologist and MNA Trustee Wayne Ranney. GSENM is one of the newest protected areas on the Colorado Plateau and you will experience some of its finest little-known gems on day hikes that are three miles or less round trip. Daily adventures begin and end in the comfort of the Boulder Mountain Lodge, with fine dining available at the acclaimed Hell’s Backbone Grill. Lunches and snacks are provided; breakfast and dinner are an additional personal expense.

About the trip leader

Wayne RanneyWayne Ranney’s passion for Southwest geology took root during his years as a backcountry ranger in the Grand Canyon. His association with MNA began in 1978, as a research assistant in the Geology Department. In 1982, he joined the Ventures program. Read more…
